NTTC Urges FMCSA To Reject ELD Exemption Request

On June 6, NTTC filed comments with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) opposing an exemption request made by the Small Business in Transport Coalition (SBTC) of the Electronic Logging Device (ELD) mandate. The SBTC’s has requested a permanent exemption for any motor carrier with fewer than 50 employees.

NTTC supports the ELD mandate because it makes highways safer for carriers. When it promulgated the ELD mandate, the FMCSA’s analysis indicated that ELDs would prevent 1,844 crashes and 26 fatalities annually. SBTC’s exception would include more than 90% of motor carriers, effectively eliminating these safety improvements.
