FMCSA Extends Comment Period on HOS ANPRM

Granting a request from NTTC, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has extended the comment period for its Hours of Service advanced notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPRM).

The rulemaking docket was originally scheduled to close on September 24. The agency extended the comment period until October 10 after receiving requests from NTTC and several other industry organizations.

The comment period is an important part of the process of changing regulations: it's how the public can influence the development of new rules or defend current ones from unwise changes.

NTTC staff has worked closely with our Board of Directors and Safety & Security Council to develop an official response to the ANPRM. In line with our policy, we will file as close to the deadline as possible. Carrier members who are interested in seeing NTTC’s draft comments should contact me. Carriers who are interested in filing their own comments can do so at regulations.gov under docket FMCSA-2018-0248. NTTC staff will assist carriers with developing or filing their comments upon request.
