5th Professional Tank Truck Driver of the Year Grand Champion
Announced at NTTC's Annual Conference & Exhibits

ARLINGTON, Va., May 8, 2018 – During NTTC 70th Annual Conference & Exhibits at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto, ON, professional driver Paul Emerson of Foodliner, Inc. was selected as NTTC’s Professional Tank Truck Driver of the Year Grand Champion.  The award recognizes eight exemplary tank truck driver Champion Finalists and one Grand Champion who serve the industry with the safest transportation of liquid and dry bulk commodities.  The Professional Tank Truck Driver of the Year Award was established to recognize the best of the best in the tank truck industry, sponsored by Protective Insurance.

Mr. Paul Emerson, a 47-year professional driver, accepted the William A. Usher Award in the company of seven other professional tank truck driver champion finalists.  The eight drivers were chosen based on accident-free miles, industry and company leadership, communication and public speaking skills, and overall industry knowledge. Mr. Emerson has driven an impressive 2 million accident-free miles. Emerson is a previous Oklahoma Trucking Association Driver of the Year Runner-up, a three-time Oklahoma Defensive Driving Award recipient, and a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America. Since beginning his professional truck driving career by obtaining a commercial driver’s license in 1970, he has worked in many aspects of the trucking industry. He has not only a vast knowledge and experience as a professional driver, but also a leading safety advocate for all commercial drivers and the general motoring public.

“Congratulations to Grand Champion Paul Emerson and our seven champion finalists for another great contest year,” said NTTC president Daniel R. Furth.  “Paul is a true professional and fine individual to represent our unique segment in trucking.  I very much look forward to working with him as we spread our safety message across North America.”

“Thanks to our driver group, our judges, and our sponsor on another great contest year,” said NTTC Chairman John Whittington of Grammer Industries.  “For five straight years, the tank truck industry has been truly fortunate to have a Grand Champion like Paul Emerson who epitomizes safety and service which is the key to success for all of our carrier members.”

About NTTC:

The National Tank Truck Carriers, Inc. has represented the tank truck industry before Congress and various federal agencies since its founding in 1945.  NTTC’s membership is comprised of over 600 companies that specialize in bulk transportation services by cargo tank throughout North America.  The tank truck industry generates approximately 6% of all truck freight revenue, but that represents 30% of all truck freight in terms of tonnage because of the heavy nature of the liquid bulk products handled.
